Product Description

The Goodfella Double Edged Safety Razor

The razor 100% designed, manufactured and built in New Zealand by Kiwishaver Limited. The double edged or DE razor is the traditional old school shaver that is making a comeback in a big way. This open comb design sets the standard in classic shaves ensuring the head never gets clogged with shaving products and stubble.

Goodfellas double edged razors are perfectly balanced to deliver a smooth and close yet mild shave by allowing the weight of the razor to deliver the single blade at the optimum cutting angle. Our razors are hand finished and built by our skilled team who are passionate about their trades. The razor weighs in at a hefty 80 grammes, the stainless steel handle is 10mm in diameter and 77mm in length. Each head is checked three times during production to ensure strict quality control.

A Brief History of the Classic DE Razor

The first double edged shaver is believed to have been invented in the late 18th century by a Frenchman named Jean-Jacques Perret, and a similar model was also made in Sheffield, England in the 1820s. In 1901, US inventors King Camp Gillette and William Nickerson invented a razor with disposable blades. Gillette’s brand proved remarkably popular, with sales reaching 90,000 razors and 123,000 razor blades by 1904. In 1965 Wilkinson Sword sneaked ahead of Gillette in the market by switching from easily-rusting carbon steel to stainless steel blades which naturally lasted considerably longer. Gillette then had to follow suit and produced its own brand of stainless steel blades. Double edged razors began to be phased out in the early 1970s with Gillette's introduction of replaceable blade cartridges that held two blades. Meanwhile, Bic entered the market in 1974 with a fully disposable razor that you simple threw away after a few decent shaves. At the turn of the millennium, Gillette introduced the triple blade cartridge, sparking the blade wars were the major players released innovative razors with numerous yet dubious technological advancements in razor and blade design. Commonly found on supermarket shelves and heavily promoted through the media we see the Schick Quattro and the five-bladed Gillette Fusion. Around every six to twelve months customers are encouraged to upgrade to the latest innovation that offers the most comfortable shave yet, this could be a lubricating strip, extra blade, ergonomic handle or a battery powered model that buzzes across your face.

With the blade wars getting out of hand Goodfella has turning back the clock to the period of normality where one sharp double edged blade combined with a quality built razor designed to last a lifetime is the only razor you need to buy now and all our customers agree.

What are you waiting for? Take your pick right now between this classic bright chrome or the stylish satin black double edged razor. Built to last it’s the only razor you need to buy now!

If you like me this product sound too good to be true? It isn’t. I'm sick of paying $25 a time for disposable blades.

You can use at home, on vacation or anywhere you travel.

Now is a better time than ever to get started shaving your legs girls!

  2. Love the Goodfellas best review

I have the Goodfellas saftey razor. I switched to it about 2 years ago and it was one of the best things I have ever done. It is a beautiful razor and it works flawless every time. I have converted my entire family and about ten friends from plastic razors to the goodfellas safety razors and every one is very satisfied. My wife even has one!

  3. Goodfella - Merkur Comparison best review

Posted by Marcus on 31st Oct 2011

The Goodfella razor is the best razor I have ever drawn across my face. Considering I switched to this razor from using a Merkur Futur, this wasn't an understatement. The Goodfella is superior in every way. Sadly, the Merkur Futur feels obsolete by comparison. I could go on and on about this razor so I'll say this, shaving has been redefined.

  4. The gentle open comb razor best review

Posted by Charles M. on 31st Oct 2011

Over the decades–my beard is now white–I have shaved with straight razors, a Rolls razor, numerous Gillettes, and a handful of German razors with bar guards, open combs, and slanted open combs. None of those would shave me close without tearing up my skin but I find that the Goodfella razor will.

I tried a Goodfella because it was reputed to be gentle and I had never heard of a gentle open comb, but I almost did not because a number of men have reported on the web that it cannot shave closely; and so a retailer told me as well. So I thought too, when I first tried it, but then I took my heart in my hands and held it so that the blade cut at what would normally be a dangerously acute angle. Not a drop of blood, just the smoothest shave I have ever felt on my face.

  5. Best Razor on the Market best review

Posted by Rob C. on 11th Jun 2011

Shaving again is an art that cannot be rushed if you want perfection, and there is no better razor on the market in my opinion that gives such a level of precision and perfection to each shave. The weight and feel of the razor in ones hand is also something to behold. You feel like you own the blade and with each pass, you can get the most amazing smooth, non irritative pass imaginable. The Goodfella has taken my shaving experience from something I wished I never had to do, to something I cannot wait to do.
